A Valentine's for Blue Heron

blue heron eating fish - illustration

This blue heron is celebrating Valentine's with a few friendly fish—

Sticklebacks, to be specific! They live in the marshy regions of the shore. He thinks they are fin-tastic, of course, but the fish may not agree. I used pinks and turquoise in this illustration, adding in textures and gradients to create a softer mood for the romantic event. Blue herons look mostly more grey then blue, but they are one of my favourite birds. You can't miss them when they fly overhead with their incredible wingspan and no visit to a beach or lake is complete without seeing at least one tall heron.

There are only eight species of turtles that are native to Canada — and I've rounded up a few of them for this heart-felt illustration. Cowabunga! (None of the above species eat pizza or know martial arts, to the best of my knowledge.)
